Mayor's Jewelers (2.94)
Left my Movado watch with Mayor's in Broward Mall to be shipped to Movado for an estimate on maintenance and repairs. I was charged $25 for shipping and insurance. My neighbor left his Omega watch with Mayor's at the same time to be sent to Omega for an estimate on maintenance and repair and was also charged $25 for his shipping and insurance. 5 weeks later !!!, we were contacted by Mayor's. I was given an extremely high estimate for my work and my neighbor was told that his watch could not be repaired because the watch was too old and they don't make the parts anymore. After researching this, I found that Mayor's had not sent either watch to Movado or Omega but had sent them to a repair shop in Dearborn Michigan where they send a lot of their work. Yes, we were charged $50 shipping and insurance to send the watches to the exact same location and probably in the same package! I have since found a Movado authorized service center locally that charges $131 less than the price from the Michigan shop. My neighbor questions the explanation he was given from the Michigan shop because the Omega website states that they repair 35,000 watches annually with 26% of them being between 15-40 yrs. old. Had his watch been sent to Omega as he had requested and been told that it would, maybe the outcome would have been different. If my Movado had been sent to the factory as I had been told, maybe I would have gotten a fair estimate to begin with. I would not recommend using Mayor's Jewelers for watch repair or maintenance.
